Mangroves? In the UAE?

Mangroves are an essential part of the UAE. They are very important for nesting birds. They help protect the shoreline from eroding and are a rich source of food for many species of animals and insects. There are many Mangrove Parks around the UAE, and The Emirates Marine Environmental Organization focuses on preserving each and every one. Our Changemakers spent the summer cleaning up the algae surrounding the mangroves. Algae are harmful to the mangroves because they reduce the purity of the water and they block the areas of the mangroves where small sea creatures often seek protection in when being preyed on by larger animals.
